We have an eMachines (Gateway) computer. It was purchased 12/16/08. Chatting with online tech support I got this response.

Jithu_GWSI376 says: By validating the serial number, I can see that your computer not covered the warranty.
Don S says: ? he said he just bought it in december?
Jithu_GWSI376 says: Sorry what we can see is that the warranty started in 10/16/2008 and ended in 10/16/2008.
Don S says: started and ended the same day?

NOTICE the warranty started and ended 2 months before purchase and was for 1 DAY, not 1 year as advertised.

I called tech support next and gave them the serial # instead of the SNID number and they told me it was not a valid serial number. I had to insist they run the SNID number to get them to acknowledge the computer. I found out on this call the 10/16/08 date was the manufacture date. (so even if I had the computer the day it was made it should STILL have been under waraanty)

ALSO as a note the serial# on the computer does NOT match the serial# on the box. It appears that the BOX and computer have 1 letter that is differant. THIS seems to be common among their products as we checked and the other computers we got had exactly the same issue.

I guess they might warranty the BOX but they have no record of the serial#'s on the actual computer. A great way to scam your way out of a warranty! Keep your box or you just threw your factory warranty out in the trash! They have no record of the serial# on the computer itself!

Surely the company that makes the product MUST know that the BOX serial# differs by 1 letter from the computer serial#. The SNID number matches the Box & Computer.

Any reputable company will warranty there product from manufacture date until the warranty period is up, without a receipt. If Proof of purchase is supplied the would extend the warranty from the date of purchase.

Do Not Buy A eMachine / Gateway computer, they do not stand behind there products.

BTW eMachines tech support and Gateways are exactly the same. I went to Gateways tech to try to get assistance and got te exact same tech as I did in the chat above Jithu_GWSI376.
