"CAVEAT EMPTOR": Let the buyer beware of Gateway. We purchased three Gateway PCs and monitors and it is the worst purchasing mistake we've ever made. From the outset the Gateway PCs malfunctioned and we complained IN VAIN so many times to Gateway that they had sold us "lemons." Gateway refused to replace our PCs. Hard drives crashed in less than a year, and when Gateway sent a service guy to replace our hard drive Gateway had the nerve to want to take the old hard drive (with all our data embedded therein). We were given a supposed LIFETIME free technical support via telephone warranty for all our PCs and monitors--or so we THOUGHT! Guess what they did? They sold our lifetime warranty to a company that promptly went out of business, and Gateway now claims that their lifetime warranty for free technical support was legally transferred and that they are absolved of any responsibility for living up to the original warranty. Their lifetime of free technical support was the very selling point for the Gateway machines we bought. And they have in effect reneged on their promise. Gateway's Customer Services Department is the worst customer service department we have ever dealt with; we have written, phoned and e-mailed them, as well as to Gateway executives, to no avail. We have nicknamed Gateway's Customer Service department Gateway's Customer Frustration and Denial of Service department. No matter whom you write you get the same guy from Customer Service replying with his robotic responses. Gateway simply does nothing to satisfy the customer. How and why is it that this company stays in business? And how and why is it that the Better Business Bureau has not put a red alert next to Gateway so as to alert consumers to steer clear of Gateway products?! Take my free advice...DO NOT DEAL WITH GATEWAY! Caveat Emptor!
